The Epic Voyage

For Galactica to reach Harlingen from Oss, extreme measures had to be taken. The mast, part of the sundeck, and even the propellers were removed and transported separately. Each lock and bridge along the route demanded millimetre-perfect navigation, with lasers measuring clearances and crews working under constant pressure.

The voyage, originally planned for three days, stretched into a saga of delays as high waters forced the yacht to wait for safe passage. At Heusden bridge, the team waited deep into the night for the water to fall to a level that would allow clearance.

What began as a technical operation soon became national news, with the Dutch public following the yacht’s progress on the evening broadcasts. At every stage, the story was not only one of scale and engineering, but also of care: when a vessel of this value, crafted with such precision and passion, is entrusted to the river, no risk is too small and no precaution too great.
